4th of July 2014: Redmond, Oregon…

JULY 4, 2014. We’re been in Redmond, Oregon for a few days, after driving east from Eugene, across the Cascades and through the Willamette Forest.  Redmond is in the high desert, just 15 miles north of Bend. The drive was breathtaking: we traveled alongside bright blue streams rippling across the rocks and meandering through the … Continue reading »

Easter 2014: Exploring Bryce Canyon, Utah…

APRIL 20, 2014 EASTER SUNDAY. We set aside today to explore Bryce Canyon National Park. However, since it’s Easter Sunday we hoped we could also find a church service to attend. Problem is, in the little town of Cannonville where we’re camped, the only church is Mormon. Since we’re not members we can’t attend services … Continue reading »

Christmas Day dawned bright and sunny.  We took a drive along the lake. The bright blue water looked as if a handful of glittering diamonds had been tossed on the surface. Absolutely gorgeous! We then went to see a movie: Saving Mr. Banks. It was special. It is the topic of this post. It was … Continue reading »

Lake Havasu for the holidays 2013…

DECEMBER 20, 2013. If someone  had predicted that we would be celebrating Christmas at Lake Havasu this year I’d have thought he was nuts! But here we are. We arrived on December 20th at the Havasu RV Resort, not far from the London Bridge and the brilliant blue water of Lake Havasu. The Lake … Continue reading »

Christmas display in the tiny town of Cornville, Arizona. Dave Kessel.

DECEMBER 15, 2013.  This is another post about interesting people I’ve met along the way. As I’ve stated, one of the compelling reasons I had for taking this trip was to meet and talk with interesting Americans. I want to meet folks whose backgrounds aren’t parallel with mine.  I want to learn how they think, … Continue reading »

Copper Queen Hotel in Bisbee, Arizona…

The hotel… For Thanksgiving dinner, we drove to the Copper Queen Hotel in Bisbee. Construction of the hotel began in 1898 and was completed in 1902. It was the product of a booming mining camp called Bisbee. Once the largest city between St. Louis and San Francisco, it is now a beautiful, quiet getaway. The … Continue reading »
