Eateries

You know I love to cook. I also love to eat good food someone else has prepared. I doesn’t need to be fancy, but it does need to be ‘”clean,” and well prepared. If it has some eye appeal, so much the better. Lots of eateries are just plain awful or at best “just okay.” Those joints won’t find a place in my blog. The unusual spots, the ones where the food is exceptional or different for me…I’ll mention them here. This page is akin to Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.” I’ll also mention high-end fine eateries, but that won’t happen too often. I didn’t bring much appropriate clothing that would get me past the front door of a fine restaurant! Here we go…these are the spots that have interested me so far…

The Old European Restaurant, Post Falls, Idaho…

AUGUST 5, 2014. A VERY SPECIAL PLACE. Post Falls is a town just a few miles from Coeur d’Alene. We happened on a restaurant there today that is very special. Without a doubt, this is the most noteworthy eatery we’ve found so far on our Adventure. Second place isn’t even close! All the soups and … Continue reading »

JULY 29, 2014. A PATCHWORK OF ROLLING FARMLAND. The drive from Lewiston, Idaho to Newport, Washington via Spokane turned out to be a memorable one. State Route 195. True rural America. It took us almost 100 miles along the Palouse Scenic Byway, which is a spectacular drive through a patchwork quilt of rolling hills, celebrated … Continue reading »

Passing through Idaho…

MAY 7, 2014: We’re now on our way to Cavitt Creek Falls in Southern Oregon. Today we left Salt Lake City and drove to Twin Falls, Idaho. Tomorrow we’ll continue through Boise and then into Baker City, Oregon before we stop again for the night. There is a shorter route, but because of storms and … Continue reading »

The little town of Julian, California…

JANUARY 20, 2014. From our campsite in Ramona, Julian is just a short drive East on olde Highway 78. It’s an historic gold mining town near Lake Cuyamaca in the Cuyamaca Mountains, a premier mountain retreat, unique in San Diego because it has four distinct seasons. Wildflowers including lots of daffodils bloom in the Spring, … Continue reading »

Coffee Pot Restaurant, Sedona, Arizona…

DECEMBER 16, 2013. On the outskirts of Sedona is a little family owned  breakfast-lunch restaurant called “The Coffee Pot.” It’s been serving good food since the 1950’s  and is named after “Coffee Pot Rock,” one of the famous local rock formations, which can be seen from the patio.  It’s been voted “the best breakfast in … Continue reading »

Up the Creek Grill. Page Springs, Arizona…

Up the Creek Grill is a very special restaurant!  It easily ranks #1 so far on the list of places where we’ve dined on this Journey. As you know I’m a real wanna be chef and restauranteur.  I’ve often thought over the years that Culinary School might have better suited me than Law School. Although … Continue reading »

The hotel… For Thanksgiving dinner, we drove to the Copper Queen Hotel in Bisbee. Construction of the hotel began in 1898 and was completed in 1902. It was the product of a booming mining camp called Bisbee. Once the largest city between St. Louis and San Francisco, it is now a beautiful, quiet getaway. The … Continue reading »

Eateries in Yuma, Arizona…

NOVEMBER 16, 2013 Famous Dave’s Barbecue Being in Yuma, the lettuce growing capitol of the world and home to mostly migrant farm workers, I was a little surprised that there were some pretty good places to eat near our campground.
